Message Series: Broken

Parenting is hard. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, just when you think that you’re beginning to get a handle on it, life happens - and it’s back to square one. Is it any wonder, then, that we, as products of our parents, inevitably grow up flawed, fallible, and incomplete? After all, we’re reared by flawed, fallible, incomplete people, who were also reared by flawed, fallible, incomplete people, and so on and so on. Couple those deficiencies with what is likely the most difficult task ever given to mankind by God, raising children, and it’s no surprise that generation after generation produces the same broken, abridged prototype of a being originally created in the image of God.

Yet long after our childhoods have ended, long after our innocence is gone, and long after we’ve run out of excuses for our own deficiencies, the obstacles to recovering the fullness of our Creator’s design remain. Soon we discover that we don’t just merely emulate the frailty of our earthly mentors, but rather coalesce them with our own set of glaring deficits to form a uniquely flawed, broken human being. Each new phase of life brings with it it’s own set of challenges that cause us to miss something, to fail to acquire some integral piece of the puzzle. And then one day we look back over our lives and realize that we are a project that has never been completed, a painting that has never been framed, a song that has never been sung.

While our lives may have begun by emulating the fallibilities of the flawed, however, they can end while reflecting the grandeur of God! We may have failed to capture the essence of His image thus far, but with the direction of the Spirit, we can reclaim the parts of our lives that the Enemy has tried to steal away, the image of God we were destined to don! Hope is not lost, even though we are broken!

6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:6 NLT
